Activities
Throughout your child's time at Nursery the following activities are gradually introduced at appropriate stages in their development
PRE-SCHOOL LEARNING ACTIVITIES
MATHS
The nursery follows the foundation stage curriculum and from the age of 3 years each child is offered a very practical numeracy session every week to include counting, shapes, weighing and number recognition. They also learn through role modellng how to hold their pencil correctly, use scissors appropriately and generally extend their concentration and social skills.
LITERACY
At the age of 4 years the children take part in our Letters and Sounds sessions to enhance their listening skills in preparation for recognition of letter sounds. This is a fun way of learning, which involves small group work and also extends their concentration skills. The children are also encouraged in mark making and pencil control moving towards writing their name.
FRENCH
As children are most receptive to language during their early years we introduce the French language through rhymes, songs, stories and games. A qualified French teacher attends twice weekly to conduct these sessions for children in their last one or two terms at nursery.
BALLET
A session of ballet is held once a week to allow the children to express themselves musically, and of course to dress up like ballet dancers.
DRAMA
The children have a session of drama each week to extend their confidence and encourage role-play. They gradually work towards a little show that they perform to their peers during the summer term with full costume and scenery! At Christmas the children perform a traditional nativity play, with lively dance and music, to their parents.
GARDENING & SCIENCE
The children have regular gardening and science sessions to extend their knowledge and understanding of the world.
OUTINGS
The older 3 and 4 year olds have the opportunity, with parents consent, to go on two outings per year, the aquarium in the summer and the theatre at Christmas.
GRADUATION
A Graduation Ceremony is held annually to celebrate children's nursery years. Parents are invited to attend to see their child presented with a certificate and to watch the end of year performance.
